I'd like to see a map like this of Calgary:
Yellow are primarily single family homes, in neighbourhoods where the goal is 'stability'.
Hey, this is an old post, but I have been working on a map like this since late 2016. I'm not in GIS - so the file isn't linked with a dataset - but I have been vectorizing the LUB 1p2007 to create a map of the city by Land Use. Started out as an exploration of the difference between my old neighbourhood, Connaught, and my then new one, Southwood. My hunch was that the monoculture of Land Use in Southwood precipitated the...ahem...dullness compared to Connaught. Then I started expanding out. Could be exported to CAD to get rough land areas by type for each neighbourhood. The map of the city isn't done yet, and as Land Use Amendments are made I have to manually change the map region category, but as a general idea for the city it's been a lot of work for my nighttime mouse hand. I'd say the map is about 75% there. After the vectors are done comes the fun part of applying filters (ie turn on only industrial use, grey all others; or turn on only med-high density uses) and improving the visuals. Anyone know what the tallest residential tower is in Calgary? How about largest overall residential development?

I believe The Guardian towers are the tallest residential towers, Telus Sky will be but that's mixed use.

What is the criteria for largest? Most units in a single tower? Or, can multiple towers of the same project count? Or, is it FAR?

The Guardians are the current tallest residential at 147 meters. West Village I will be the tallest at 150 meters upon completion. Telus Sky will have the highest residences in the city at 222 meters, but of course 2/3 of the floor area of that tower is dedicated to office space.

The developer is clearly not a reliable source when it comes to evaluating this development. However, there were a couple things worth noting. First, he claims that it took Pacific Mall in Markham 2 years to fill up. Pacific Mall has been thriving for years and its success is really my only source of optimism for this project. It is like a Chinese Dollarama. Probably would work fine. If they got Muji, Miniso, and/or Uniqlo as anchor tenants this mall would probably kill it.

If Muji or Uniqlo came to Calgary, they'd likely locate in the Chinook and not New Horizon - just as they have located by the Toronto Eaton Centre, not Pacific Mall.
Long term the mall will probably do okay, as the building is built and isn't going anywhere. It's also a nice building for the most part. It just needs a reset of the numbers.
How long it takes is the issue... A number of people are going to have to take a bath in order to get stores into the stalls, as the current asking prices are way too high. It's a basic real estate play out and at some point a number of owners are going to throw in the towel figuring, why pay pay condo fees holding onto an empty stall that will never get rented for the price they want. They'll either sell the stall for cheap just to get out of it, or they'll drop the rent way down, so to get some revenue out of it. If the mall can get a Best Shop and about 150 - 200 stalls filled, it might be enough.
