It's buried in the article but sounds like Aspen Properties has purchased Sun Life Plaza and are planning to redevelop similar to The Edison

I'm down with the hate. Not only boring ugly buildings, but instead of going wit twins like usual, they went with triplets!Sun Life Plaza is one of my most hated buildings in downtown. I mean, look at the NW corner! Hopefully there is some major improvements made at the ground level.
Thats awesome. Ive spent a lot of my years in that area. Taradale, Saddleridge, and Martindale have to be easily the most vibrant suburban communities in Calgary although Seton and newer communities will eventually overtake them. Some significant density proposed in Saddle Ridge, off of 52nd Street NE is going to CPC next week.

This exactly. 5 vehicle lanes (1 of which is just a permanently empty centre-median, all of which are under-utilized 20+ hours a day) while the sidewalk is so narrow (and sloped at the corner) that two people can barely pass each other (assuming they are able-bodied and not using a mobility device or with a stroller). Also, the blind corner AND having a street signal pole right around it further restricting movement. Oh and it's an advanced green turn for vehicles north on 8th Street to west on 11th Ave so pedestrians crossing 11th Ave have to wait even longer than the excessively long 11th Ave westbound signal phase. Cool cool cool, totally cool. One of the scariest corners to stand at on 8th.

You could say that about half the streets downtown. It's quite clear which transportation mode has had the priority in this city... 5th is one that I've always been amazed about how narrow the sidewalks are. It's amazing how poorly coordinated and laid out 8th street is considering how busy a pedestrian corridor it is.
Another one with an amazingly unused centre median. Much better have those cars gently shift their lanes back together at low speeds than give pedestrians enough space to pass each other without stepping on the roadway - in front of those same cars. You could say that about half the streets downtown.
