General Construction Updates

Rockyridge Rec centre

An amazing facility and and beautiful design. It might be one of the most architecturally stunning recreation centres anywhere.

... but where architecture succeeds, site and land use planning fails. This could be the most car-dependent facility project in Calgary's history of car-dependent facility projects. A site this big with this many future users shouldn't be this far from the adjacent arterial road, let alone from nearby housing or any rapid transit. From the front door to the nearest intersection will be a few hundred metre walk minimum just to leave the property.

When one succeeds, the other fails is usually how it goes. Damn budgets. It's a nice curvaceous design. Lot of those around.

Kind of like the Telus Science centre. Out in the middle of nowhere. :(

obviously the salce is bigger but, It reminds me of a few churches I've seen. Trump would approve of the cladding

I hope so. Not that the gold really looks that bad, but the brown Coppery look would be so much better.

Now I can't wait for it to be bright green. Is it copper though? I addmittedly haven't looked into it. It looks more like brass.

Brass. or Trivalent Yellow Zinc. The colours are virtually the same, the yellow zinc plating would be cheaper probably, but I've never seen it used in a building application like this (usually auto parts) Who knows, there are so many new materials coming out these days.
