Apparently this was done a while ago and the reasons they didn't announce it was because the team was doing bad. I don't know if this management team just has a really bad grasp of the fan base? I think the vast majority wanted Conroy to extend and did not want whatever Maloney said last week. But they seem to want to keep the facade of competing, while being committed to a rebuild (I hope).
In the recent CNBC franchise valuations, Flames were 17, just above Minnesota and Colorado, and just below Tampa and Carolina. The fact that we are still in this group of extremely successful teams, with the team we have, there's definitely financial room to tank, just need an owner that's willing. Edmonton is 5th, sandwiched between huge markets like LA, Boston, Chicago. That should show the upside
