1st St Chinatown Tower Development | ?m | 28s | El Condor Lands | Perkins + Will

The one that this thread is based on was two residential towers and a hotel. No significant office component in the iteration that was kiboshed by the Chinatown Community Association.

As suggested above, the land use for this one is now going to CPC, but it is next week (May 20th). Report on it is here:
Background and planning evaluation:
Applicant submission stating that this DC, if it is approved by Council, will allow the initial DP to go ahead:
And the letter from the Chinatown CA opposed to it:

Let’s oppose skyscrapers downtown because....well just because. Nothing speaks vibrancy like a derelict parking lot. The CA needs to give their heads a shake. Here is a project that can completely transform the community and make it more vibrant with amenities, yet they oppose it. Wow...

Does any CA approve anything that's over three stories tall? It feels like the primary purpose of CA's is to maintain status quo by how often they reject any urban build. The ones that do get endorsement feel few and far between.

LOL, the Chinatown CA is all for keeping it a parking lot until 2030.
Literally the only two things in the entire application they support are keeping a parking lot until 2030 and a spelling change. Literal quote: "We do not support a reduction in parking anywhere in Chinatown."

It's rare when a CA doesn't oppose something these days. It seems to be the default position. This one is really weird though. There is literally nothing to gain by leaving it an empty lot.

LOL, because Chinatown is such a desirable destination now they require more parking than a Costco and Walmart shared lot. No wonder Waterfront condos have advertised themselves as being in Eau Clare rather than Chinatown. Who wants to be associated with a CA like that?
