    2025 Federal Election

Yes, but i think part of it is due to the fact that in Ontario, a lot of blue collar unions voters went blue this time around (as they had provincially under Ford) while in AB, blue collar voters have supported the PCs/wild Rose/UCP for ages. Public sector union voters here, and pretty much...

    Kensington Mixed Use | 20m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | J+S Architect

Almost certainly 6 storeys, as i imagine going any higher would push costs up too much by having to go concrete and any lower would not yield enough units to make it worthwhile.

    2025 Federal Election

That's actually a really interesting idea. Although, from Mark Carney's perspective, he only needs 3 more votes to pass legislation, so he may find it less constraining to find common ground with the 3 opposition parties on an issue-by-issue basis (especially if, as seems likely, he takes the...

    1st Ave NE Shoppers | 12m | 2s | First Capital | Collabor8

Even my own family ridicules me for the fact that Arby's is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.

    Mosaic | 26m | 6s | Casa Ridge | FAAS Architecture

Good looking project, but I sure wish it were replacing a vacant lot or at least something other than a cool old retail building with an eclectic mix of independent stores.

I'm going to guess La Caille and Imperia

    Kings by LaCaille | 113m | 35s | LaCaille Group | S2

I'm in the minority it seems, but I actually prefer the new design. Although, neither version is either particularly exciting or offensive IMO... Hopefully we can all at least agree it's better than Copenhagen.

    Kings by LaCaille | 113m | 35s | LaCaille Group | S2

Update for this one! A revised DP has been applied for with some changes to the overall elevation and especially to the roof. Also several floors added, height is now 35 floors. They still have a partial BP for foundation and parkade construction I believe so this should not substantially...

Excellent post Calgcouver, and I fully agree.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Agree re: getting improvement of the urban realm on 16th. I did see on the weekend that the cleaners was being torn down. I am looking forward to that one moving ahead, both for convenient access to Shoppers as an area resident, and to get more density along 16th.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

DP just submitted for a new project known as "mosaic" at the NE corner of 16 St and 6 Av NW. Looks fine IMO (although, not sure how that weird fish scale pattern will turn out) and has ground floor retail, but annoyed at the loss of a cool old commercial building, rather than redeveloping one...

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

I share in the frustration of the loss of a historically significant building. Broward is a great looking project, but should have replaced a strip mall or, better yet, a parking lot.

    Riverside Village | 86m | 27s | CNIB | S2

Approved at CPC today. Now (maybe, hopefully) another construction commencement this year!

    Parkline | 60m | 16s | Minto | Zeidler

So the height will be 16 storeys max now, correct? I see the residents are still whining but IMO what was approved is very reasonable for such a central location.

    General Construction Updates

North Hill Mall is weird - in the time I've lived in the area the mall actually seems to have filled up, with not that many vacancies, although that furniture place where Sears used to be always sems dead. They seem to have more independent retailers and less chains than bigger malls like...

    Munro | 26m | 7s | Calgary Co-op | NORR

I was driving 16th today and Munro and Harmony are giving a bit of a "street wall" feel to what has previously felt like a desolate stretch of the TCH. Obviously much more work to do but it's a start.

    Arts Commons | 18m | 4s | City of Calgary | KPMB

I'd argue that Prince's Island Park and the accompanying riverfront pathway are already becoming our "Crown jewel". Not as well known as the other examples you highlighted but it's always busy on a nice day and I see it serving that purpose, even moreso with Olympic Plaza being closed for 3...

    Arts Commons | 18m | 4s | City of Calgary | KPMB

I am pleasantly surprised by the new Olympic Plaza design. I had heard through the grapevine that it would be mediocre, but this looks like a good use of the space. I am especially impressed at how they put thought into how it would be used year round.

    Infill Development Discussion

Good to see that affordable housing project on 20th finally getting underway, but it's alarming to me that Calgary Housing took so many years to get to start of construction on a measly 16 units. That's not even enough to be called a drop in the bucket at a time when we need a lot more...

    Southview Mixed Housing | 50m | 12s | Calgary Housing | Metafor

Looks decent enough. I especially like the courtyard.
