Infill Development Discussion

Perhaps the city could offer the owner to buy up some land and the same price as adjacent land, then cover the rest of the cost out of city coffers?

Not sure if this DP was covered here yet. It's 15 units + 7 suites (22 units?) in Marda Loop. South side of 34 Ave SW near 17 St SW, and extends all the way to 35 Ave SW.

Looks like two tiny narrow-lot bungalows on 34th and two on 35th would be coming down, as well as a small 2-storey 1950s apartment building. Not really a net increase in units, but likely a net increase in bedrooms.

$1.5 million to have the back of a condo, parade, ventilation fans and all, behind your back yard.
It doesn't look like that much of a problem? It's not a tall condo and a duplex on the site would most likely mean an additional 2 car garage facing the alley, which also acts like a barrier for the backyard (alongside existing trees).

I do wish property values were lower though. But it is in a very sought after community and location, so it kinda is what it is if you're looking for a detached or semi-detached place here.

Good to see that affordable housing project on 20th finally getting underway, but it's alarming to me that Calgary Housing took so many years to get to start of construction on a measly 16 units. That's not even enough to be called a drop in the bucket at a time when we need a lot more non-market housing...

I was kind of surprised about the units. There are other 16 unit builds in the area on much smaller spaces. They could have easily put something like Homespace 12th ave on this lot.
