Looks like shit and completely out of context with the park and cathedral around it. This might be the first time ever that I think a building is too tall. Retail on 17th is nice, everything else is gross. Pass!
Looks like they've changed the design from the one I saw years ago, but I'm happy to see the retail on 17th. Now that 17th is going through to the Stampede grounds it makes even more sense.
The original design in case anyone is wondering. There was retail, but it was facing 16th ave instead of 17th.

I like the old desgn better, but at least the new design has the retail on 17th instead of 16th.

Not for me. Retail looks good, although it doesn’t really match the rest of the building. They should carry the brick up the building. Also, the massing feels off. Seems like the building should be 5 stories shorter or 10 stories taller.

The chunky massing, coupled with a 1 storey podium, is definitely throwing me off as well. On the other hand, I'm really happy that they decided to have retail along 17th ave.

GEC is no longer the designer on this project, so that should be updated. Not sure who the new architect is though.

Looks like one of the several high-rise prison-esque buildings Edmonton has proposed/built over the past decade. Not a fan, but glad to see it’s alive I guess. Anything to start filling in 17 SE.
