This past week we caught up on one of Calgary's more interesting projects, the 6 level Platform which is currently under construction in Calgary's East Village. In our last check up in late Jaunary the project was rising and making itself noticeable. Since that time Platform has advanced another level, and the east side of the structure is now closing in on its final height

It's not often many would think of a parkade as one of their city's more interesting projects, if even at all interesting, but Platform is different. Developed by CMLC (Calgary Municipal Land Corporation) The 6 level structure will be more than just a parkade, it'll feature a 500-stall space that will sit above the 'Platform innovation hub', which will occupy part of the first floor and the entirety of the second floor in the building. The multi-use space for learning and entrepreneurship is an "investment by our community, for our community, to create jobs and economic growth in Calgary, and a place where future generations can live, work and find success here in our city," said Platform founder Brad Zumwalt.

Designed by Kasian and Winnipeg's 5468796, the building is capable of being converted into commercial or residential uses in the future, an anticipatory move by CMLC in response to increasingly applicable autonomous vehicle technologies. The ceiling heights in the parking levels will be one-and-a-half times that of traditional parkades to accommodate the eventual repurposing of the space.

With more construction yet to come, SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues.
