Just over three months since our last update, and progress at the MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties redevelopment project has moved forward significantly. In particular, the re-purposed 15-storey tower is now almost completely re-clad, its distinctive glass exoskeleton all but complete.

Designed by DIALOG for the UofC, the revamped MacKimmie Tower features a beautifully sculptural glass exterior composed of hundreds of diagonally-shaped panels. Smooth, and gently bulbous, the subtle interplay of the sculptural curves with the hard diagonal lines works well here, providing the exterior with a highly unique outward character.

Soon to be complete, the MacKimmie Tower will eventually (est. 2022) be joined by a four-storey counterpart, the MacKimmie Complex, which will host the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, with a cohort of 500 full-time business students. Taken as a whole, the MacKimmie Tower and Complex will be a thoroughly innovative, modern, addition to the UofC.

Considering the pace of construction to date, it would appear more than likely that the tower will achieve its late 2019 debut.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
