Three weeks since our last update, and progress at the site of the MacKimmie Tower recladding and retrofit at the UofC have been moving along well. Four rows of windows can now be seen, with the steel framework for the glass exoskeleton now almost complete.
The 15-storey, 1960s-era tower will soon be born anew, its top-to-bottom retrofit to completely transform and modernize the structure. Set to make up the larger of two structures to collectively comprise the MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties Building Redevelopment, the tower will become known as the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking - the future home of 500 full-load business students.
The glass exoskeleton will be made up of solar panels, thus enhancing the design of the tower with a significant green element. The tower will be joined by a similarly solar panel bedecked four-storey addition, the complex as a whole to represent a fine addition to the UofC.
The MacKimmie Complex represents a massive step in the right direction for the UofC, part of the campus' sustained push for modernization and thoughtful redevelopment.
