Beautifully situated along the north bank of the Bow River, with sweeping downtown views, Anthem Properties' 1134-1160 Memorial Drive in Hillhurst-Sunnyside has now risen more than 4/5 of its final 5-storey height. Having replaced a row of handsome, detached century homes, the new development will represent a new chapter for the neighbourhood, as Calgary's explosive downtown growth crosses north of the mighty Bow.
Viewed above and below, the timber and chipboard construction has allowed the project to rise quickly, the mid-rise residential development to soon be home to 93 units and thus up to 150 new residents. For though the project has been long in the making, dating back to 2016, recent weeks have seen a return of activity to the site, as the project has now moved close to structural completion.
Located in Hillhurst-Sunnyside, the project will place residents just a block south of the bustling Kensington Rd/14 St NW/10St NW corridors, and about a ten minute walk either north to the Sunnyside CTrain Station, or south across the river to the Downtown West CTrain Station.
Designed by Rositch Hemphill Architects, the development will eventually be clad in a mix of brick and grey stucco, its angular, boxy massing and volumes to be slightly evocative of the Prairie style, in a nod perhaps, to the history and architectural heritage of the surrounding neighbourhood.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
