Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I was down in Seton on the weekend and I was thinking about when the proposed Retail "Design" District might start. My hopes were already limited after they put in a car wash across the road but I was hoping for something a little better than this. I added a screen grab from the Seton marketing flythrough that shows what was supposed to go here.

What was proposed. (Sort of a McKenzie Town High Street vibe?)

On a brighter Seton update note, Red's Diner on Main Street is open and Leopold's Tavern is opening any day now.

How many fitness centers does Seton need? There's already Evolve Fitness, Orange Theory, Anytime Fitness and TWO YMCA's!!! That patch was supposed to have multiple smaller retail buildings throughout. What's going on the other half of the lot? Frankly it's embarrassing that Brookfield has left the entrance to the community as a dirt lot for the past decade. The orientation of the building is also terrible. Until this point they've at least prioritized the illusion of main streets by having the structures hug the roads to conceal the parking from the street. This is power centre level bad.

In positive news I'm excited for Community Foods to open on Friday. That's about the only novel retailer that they've attracted that I find useful. Boo-urns!!!

DP has been submitted by Manu Chugh Architect for a new building on 17th SW, where the Dennys is currently. Developer is Strategic. Overall I quite like it but my one big gripe is they should have done a 2 storey podium IMO.

The faded yellow and orange remind me of the old lawnchairs from the 70s my parents had while I was growing up. Average form factor, terrible appearance. I agree that a 2 story podium would work better in this location. Maybe even no podium setback since it's on the north side of the street? 17th deserves better.... even if I do really appreciate that it is bringing a much needed population and vibrancy boost to the east end.
