Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

This is the LOC that was applied for by the IBI group for the hotel. It was discussed at CPC on July 16. The land use amendment took it from its current DC to CC-X , (max out the FAR and Density which is more aligned with the Beltline ARP.

They should create an amphitheater on the river. Is there a bank on the east side of the river that provides any natural slope? A grass amphitheater looking towards a river front stage with the skyline and the sunset in the background would make a great spot. Or we could put some asphalt up against Macleod and call it a day.

I believe there's already a stage in Enmax Park except it points away from the river towards the NE. It sits just north of Sweetgrass Lodge Here

The stage faces pretty much west, a little bit to the south maybe. Here's the setup last Stampede. (The grey boxes near the stage were risers for seating).

It's a pretty small stage; nowhere near the size of the Coke, as it exists right now. The teal arc I drew is roughly 30m, which is about the same distance as the front of the Coke stage to the sound & light booth/bathroom building. If this stage were oriented northeast, it could handle a lot larger crowds in the meadow where the tipis are.

One perpetual missed opportunity is that we're in a renaissance of Aboriginal music in Canada right now, and this stage shuts down at sunset during the Stampede. A nightly music show -- even a few nights at first -- would be great.

Totally, what is this? An amphitheater for ants? It needs to be at least 3x bigger!
The space in Enmax Park is not a stage. It is flat, not elevated, but covered area and would not be suitable for large gatherings of anything. There is no sloped land unless you constructed something on Scotsman Hill looking west into the park. I would say that it is probably too steep to do that.

Some stats that are a bit old (July), but interesting still. For the last couple of years apartment starts and single family starts are fairly close.
