I've read somewhere Calgary's share of cost would be around $500M. If that includes new arena I'd say go for it. Cgy will also benefit from upgrades to various sporting facilities, affordable housing, infrastructure, and more global recognition.

Ya at this point Im down for the olympics, seeing nothing else exciting is happening, a infrastructure boost to the economy wouldn't hurt, plus YOLO, who knows if we'll get a chance again in our lifetimes

I’m intrigued on what you consider more “valuable” infrastructure? City is currently spending 100’s of millions on BRT’s, billions on LRT’s, installing more bike lanes. Unless I’m missing what else there is beside road upgrades and interchanges. Seems quite spread out on various types of infrastructure

Where are all these new bike lanes you speak of? Also, the LRT is only half as long as originally promised. The BRTs are compromised by several factors such as running in mixed traffic in many locations. And the city is now proposing cuts to the complete streets program.

Honestly, more of what you've listed. We need more bike lanes, everywhere. More transit routes, types and connections to places like Foothills, the University and down to Westbrook. Streetcar through Beltline, airport connection, 8th avenue subway, other LRT routes to connect the spokes, etc.

I agree, the name does not live up to the original at all. Those buildings above are disappointing too, but there are some good aspects of the development. Fairly dense, with multiple uses. I prefer properties like this, Trinity Hills, West Campus get developed within existing development boundaries with medium density, mixed-use versus the traditional separated-use, sprawly developments of the past. Perhaps the City should look at expanding BRT to these higher density areas going forward.

And the new farmer's market does too. I'm pretty sure people would do back flips to have something like this in the Beltline. Perhaps podium level of a tower.

Masterplan

The master plan looks anything but promising. Look at all the surface parking surrounding the mixed use area. The residential areas are typical subdivisions with an entrances or two into the development instead of a grid that can be accessed from multiple points

So I had a couple of hours to go for a walk to get my daughters to sleep today so I decided to get some photos of the many developments in Seton that not many people on here probably get to see. Quite a lot starting to happen down there that even me living in Auburn Bay was surprised about. I was not expecting to see so many condos, townhomes, and rental apartments already under construction as they are tucked out of sight behind the hospital.

Seton is building up a lot since the last time I was there. How's the Westman Village coming along? It must be close to being done by now.

Still a lot of construction left in Westman Village. Occupancies are just starting to take place in the first 3 finished buildings. 3 more buildings are under construction. 2 buildings have been put on hold. Sales are not where they hoping at this stage.

I went for a tour of Westman Village and the now open Rec Centre in the middle of the site a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty nice. I did not take any photos then but I walk past there fairly regularly too so I will try to remember to grab some photos to post next time. Even if sales are not quite where they were hoping the sales center on a weekend is definitely a busy place. I asked the Jayman sales rep and although I'm sure its 'slightly' exaggerated they said they had between 800-1000 ppl/weekend through their doors on a typical summer weekend.

• The first new venue will include a mid-sized arena, which will host preliminary hockey events and has the legacy ability to host regional, provincial and national competitions, University of Calgary Dinos and touring concerts.

• The second new venue will include a multi-sport field house to host figure skating and short track speedskating events, with a legacy ability to host high-performance sport including track, soccer, tennis and other court sports.

• Refurbished existing venues will include Olympic Oval for speedskating and WinSport for its sliding track and freestyle ski events, including aerials, big air, half-pipe, moguls and slopestyle.

• Canmore Nordic Centre to receive some course improvement to host biathlon and cross-country.

• Nakiska to receive facility upgrades to host downhill ski and snowboard events.

• Whistler to receive minor renovations to host ski jumping and nordic combined events.

• Calgary’s East Village and Canmore to receive housing for up to 4,600 athletes and team officials.

• McMahon Stadium to be expanded from 29,000 seats to 40,000 to host opening and closing ceremonies.

Can't they use the three curling arenas at Winsport up by COP?
