Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I would love to see BVS converted. Even just two of the towers. Either way though, interesting that there's been so many major properties changing hands.

I can't see this one being residential conversion, they just upgraded it and probably more of a case for Omers/AimCo to sell while CGY office is doing slightly better than few years back.
Me neither, but if I had a choice of buildings to convert BVS would at or near the top of the list. It's centrally located with a nicely laid out +15 retail set up. From a design perspective, the floorplates are larger than say Cornerstone or Tek Place, etc.. but smaller than many of the other office buildings.

$140 million is crazy cheap for 1.4 million square feet. The Bow sold for $1.25 Billion for 2 million square feet a few years ago. Sitting on the space could pay out better than a massive conversion.
Probably means that the market has finally bottomed out and properties have marked down to market clearing prices. This is a good sign!

BVS is not well suited to conversion, other than having small floor plates.

We need new stadium, considering that is UofC's ground. For a city of this size and potential, not having a proper stadium is a missed opportunity.
Where is the money coming from? Unlike the new event centre that will be used 100’s of times a year for various things. A new footballs stadium has few uses. Big white elephant for the near $1 Billion price tag.

Most provinces have 1 flagship stadium and ours is in Edmonton. I'd rather that money be spent on community amenities (rec centres, sports field, etc.) that will actually improve people's lives.

The only other province with 2 or more CFL teams is Ontario, and all 3 of them have recently built or recently renovated stadiums. Or... do the Argos still play at Sky Dome or is it BMO Stadium?? Cause BMO was recently renovated, I don't think Sky Dome has.

Calgary does need a decent stadium. McMahon is an embarrassment.

Even something cheap and simple like Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton would be fine. Though I'd prefer a Landsdowne Park-style total gutting and redo of McMahon with a similarly scaled district development. The city could even leverage the cost of the stadium against the district redevelopment to cover a good portion of the cost. Maybe?
