General Construction Updates

Well in relation to parks, I noticed that new park on 16th Avenue SW adjacent to Royal View East is well under construction already. Looks like it's going to be good, they're saving a whole slew of mature trees which is always nice to see!

Good to hear. Is that where the old Lawn bowling club was?

Yes exactly. Also the redevelopment of West Eau Claire Park should begin this year if memory serves. That will be an amazing park. Century Gardens is also on the books for redevelopment soon too, and it is going to look great.

So as of today, I estimate that we'll see 6 tower starts this year. That includes N3 - 55 meters (already started), Verve - 84 meters (already started), Ink - 45 meters, Orchard I - 96 meters, West Village I - 150 meters, and The Hat - 88 meters. Also, while not in sales the Arris towers of the RioCan block will also technically start construction as the parkade and massive retail podium will take years alone to construct, by which time the towers very well may have reached their sales target and can begin construction immediately after the podium structure is complete. So you could say 8 towers will start in 2016, which I think makes that a tie for the record which 2015 currently holds.

I like your optimism Urban Warrior You prediction isn't unreasonable, those building as are all in the mix. ALT Hotel might be in the mix too, as they have applied for a building permit.

I totally forgot ALT Hotel, Hab! Thanks. I was only considering technically "high rise" projects at 35 meters or more, but considering that ALT is probably gonna come in at like 34 meters, I suppose we can make an exception. From what I've read ALT is a sure thing to start construction this year.

From what I have heard City Centre II will be starting this year as well. Could be a busy year despite the downturn.

Indeed! So City Centre Two is how Hotel/Office right? It's no longer residential.

Correct, just hotel and office. I would have preferred residential over office, but if it gets us a 5 star hotel, I'm happy.

Jesus so including City Centre II, that'll basically be 10 towers starting construction this year potentially! Not bad at all There's even a couple skyline changers in the mix too, like West Village I, City Centre II, Verve, and Orchard! Some beef getting added to the eastern part of the skyline.

I saw lots of equipment and some people at the west village towers site yesterday morning. It looked like they were getting ready for construction.

Yeah I saw that this weekend too. I'm really happy they're going to be building the tallest tower as the first phase.

Yeah, I really like how that has become the norm for most projects as well. I wonder if we'll see more construction in the area east of the Mewata armoury following in this the WV Towers' stead. There's a lot of surface parking dying to become buildings there.

I checked with the city and no building permit has been issued for West Village towers, but they have applied for a permit. They can do a fair bit of work while waiting for the permit to be approved.
