General Construction Updates

Both central sections of the suspension span of the Inglewood Bridge arrived on site this morning. I think I squeaked out loud in front of my coworkers when I saw it 😅

Isn’t anything held up by cables not considered a suspension bridge? Well either way, it’s gonna be awesome. The minutiae doesn’t matter. Good to know though.

Since we're being pedantic:
Technically, I think that style is called a tied arch.
You're correct @Mountain Man - this is a tied arch - but I'm not incorrect. Cable-stay refers to tension cables being directly attached from the structural support to the deck. The specific description of this design is a cable-stayed through-arch (deck goes between the double arches), it's also colloquially known as a type of tied arch (you can have a single tied arch instead of double).

And before anyone says cable-stayed towers have to be vertical, have fun trying to classify Santiago Calatrava's work.

In contrast,:

Suspension bridges are characterized by their draped cables between supports, from which the deck is attached with a secondary vertical hanger. May seem like a small difference, but it's actually pretty big. Cable stayed bridges span up to 600m, whereas Suspension can span >2000m. They're much more complicated, so we reserve the special terminology.

These are some clips from a CMLC stakeholder presentation on Sept 28th, great to see the timeline information of when things will be happening at Stampede park, specifically confirmation on the SAM centre stating this fall (confirmed on a later slide that i haven't clipped), and the timleine for the start of changes on Stampede trail/olympic way. It also looks like they have, at least for the time being, abandond the hotel site that was going to be in the BMO cnetre parking lot in favour of the one on the east side of the casino.
The old blue (admin?) buildings right behind the ruins on Stampede park where the SAM centre will be going in are now fenced off and it looks like interior demo is underway.
