I wonder where that extra 300 million could be going? Is it's included with the addition of an adjacent hotel and office space for CMLC? Are we still getting that adjacent community arena? Seems weird for it to be over 50% over budget

I heard from someone from City Hall today that the event centre could be running close to $300 million over budget.

Yes, You heard that right, 300... Million... Dollars...


Edit: They did just admit that this is likely just a rumour.

300 million over seems high, but I would bet my first born that they are over budget. One issue - steel prices have gone waaaaaay up. This will really hurt the Green Line as well. Fortunately debt rates have never been lower.

Anyone catch the closing antics at City Council tonight? All the confirmation I need that the rumours posted on here are accurate and the Event Centre is going to go ahead but end up way over budget at the same time.

as infuriating as it is, going ahead with a good project despite the overrun is far from the worst outcome (imo).
