Just voted in ward 7, took about 5 minutes. Steady stream of people coming in but they had 5 booths staffed
There’s people blaming some form that is supposedly required by the UCP. Not sure how accurate that is, they had to fill out a form for me because I wasn’t on the list, even though I was sure to update my registration before the deadline. I wonder if there was some issue with the elector list from Elections AB. Not meant to be nefarious just maybe an error or timing issue.Ok this is just ridiculous
It's completely accurate; it's a hurdle that was added by the UCP for no good reason. (It was added for the bad reason that suppressing votes makes it easier to implement unpopular policies.)There’s people blaming some form that is supposedly required by the UCP. Even saying that the form took at most 2 minutes, and the Federal election had a very similar form if you were not in the rolls.
When I voted (during advance vote) the people working told me the form had to be filled out for every person who voted for a school trustee as they needed a signed declaration as to if you were voting for public or separate board. It's completely accurate; it's a hurdle that was added by the UCP for no good reason. They had to fill out the same form for me, even though I was on the electoral roll, like most people. They literally copied by hand information they already had printed in the book in front of them onto a paper form like we are a bunch of medieval monks trying to preserve Scripture, then I had to read the information they wrote down even though it's my own information, then sign it, then they had to file the paper.
Adding 2 minutes to a 1 minute process turns a 20 minute wait into a 60 minute wait.

Thousands would have seen the lines yesterday and just skipped it. Many more would have gotten into line and renegged when they saw how slow it was moving (my wife saw at least 2 people with walkers reneg during her 2 hour saga)It looks like this was likely the lowest voter turnout since 2007. Just imagine how much worse it would have been with an extra 100k people out trying to vote.
Yes, so it's my first election with Election AB voter rolls, which I was not on the list despite updating my registration before the cut off date. The form had them write my name, address, and check the ballots I'm voting for, which I then signed. I thought this was only because I was not on the list, but seems like everyone had to sign the form?IIRC correctly you moved here from out of province? This is the first election where I have had to sign any kind of declaration. Just wait til the new licenses with immigration status start appearing. This is all part of the UCP's push to disenfranchise voters.
