Does YYC have enough gates to handle an extra 7 787s? Its pretty rough right now during peak periods.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one new route to China, either Beijing, Shanghai or Hong KongThose 7 Dreamliners..... Let the speculation begin!
This is a worry I have too. Also why I'm anticipating a few of them may be used out east unfortunately.Does YYC have enough gates to handle an extra 7 787s? Its pretty rough right now during peak periods.
Further away destinations like HKG or TPE would only be possible on a pretty reduced load which is what makes me think PVG/PEK is a lot more likely to be the next Asian destination.I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one new route to China, either Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong
If they want to do a single super connecting bank including international, to USA, definitely not. But different strategies could work, especially if very complementary infrastructure is built, like the train to downtown and banff. running two banks (one optimized for east coast to asia, one optimized for west and south to europe) and forcing a 1 day layover for some transfers is entirely viable, especially if it lowers gate fees versus super sizing the airport.Does YYC have enough gates to handle an extra 7 787s? hongkong is a really important point. cx from yyc could go Manila, Delhi and mainland ChinaPVG is likely the next Asian destination. PEK well technically closer has a longer flying time due to the Russian airspace closure not to mention they already have an existing partnership with China Eastern they could utilize their too.
As for Europe - going to say LGW comes back, along with maybe Athens, Copenhagen, Milan, Madrid? Lisbon too but its tough getting slots there.
For winter, maybe they'll expand into South America.
They have codeshares with CX in HKG and CI in TPE but both destinations will be tough to serve non-stop without payload restrictions. PVG is only about an hour or so further than ICN and doable.hongkong is a really important point. cx from yyc could go Manila, Delhi and mainland China
The issue with deep South America is how they time it. They'd either have to do red-eyes in both directions to optimize connections, leaving a aircraft on the ground all day in GRU/GIG or have an day-time return. GIG would fit in with the leisure plan quite well.I could definitely see them experimenting with 2-3x weekly GRU or GIG during the winter season.
Depends on whether they're counting on belly cargo. HKG is over saturated in that market tbh. So a cargo light flight could work? AC runs 789s on some pretty long legs. Will be interesting to hear cabin layout. AC is adding more premium seats in their refreshes, and WestJet is premium light right now. Could also change baggage demand with fewer friends and family travellers. They have codeshares with CX in HKG and CI in TPE but both destinations will be tough to serve non-stop without payload restrictions. Same with LIM or CTG.
I’m guessing they could move some sun destination flights to C gates in the rush periods to open some gates??Does YYC have enough gates to handle an extra 7 787s? Its pretty rough right now during peak periods.
I'm pretty sure some will be used out east for TATL flights. Is the 787 actually that range limited? AC flies YYZ-ICN, which is slightly further than this route. Although I do agree PVG is a better market, not as saturated as AC/CX with HKG, and have good connection with China EasternThis is a worry I have too. I wonder if CX repositions one of their flights from YVR/YYZ to YYC, but I think the mainland China traffic is growing faster than Hong Kong for YYC.hongkong is a really important point. cx from yyc could go Manila, Delhi and mainland China
