Calgary Flames Official Thread

Watched that NHL behind the scenes show yesterday, quite interesting but very eastern centric like I expected. Actually made me feel bad for McDavid though, dude bawled his eyes out after game 7.

I watched that too, I was a bit underwhelmed by it. The home life with the players was them eating and watching hockey... There was some interesting things in there about what their bodies go through (a few different players use acupuncture connected to electrodes). Maybe the players really are not that interesting? Could also be editing choices. I also think the show wasn't helped by the fact that it was filmed over a short time span (just before playoffs until the finals).

I am enjoying the flames series "The Chase" on Youtube much more. For being a FlamesTV initiative they're showing quite a bit.

Yeah they were going for the Netflix behind the scenes F1 type show, but failed. They mostly followed boring players and only touched on McDavid because the Oilers were in the final. Seriously though, don't open the show with Nylander walking his dogs, how boring! Tkachuk was the most interesting, and i hate his guts now. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it didn't.

I'll have to check out the Flames one.

Easily the best quote from the Amazon series is McDavid talking about how when he's playing at top speed he isn't thinking "holy shit", he's completely comfortable and his brain is keeping up with what his body is doing. I've never heard someone describe so well what it is like to be elite at something. So many players can skate fast or handle the puck well or even see a play others can't but he is one player that can do all of that faster than anyone else.

I hate the Oilers but McDavid is an all-time player.

I say McDavid is the best player since Lemieux. Hate the oilers, love that they lost, but I genuinely felt bad for the guy.

Oilers are going to win the cup this year, I feel like they are going to set records this season. Hope I'm wrong.... lol

Yeah they were going for the Netflix behind the scenes F1 type show, but failed.
Having watched Netflix's Drive to Survive when I had never watched F1 to after I watched F1, the show became quite boring. It's a lot of dramatics and build up for non-fans to get into the sport. The two non-hockey fans that watched the series loved it. The manufactured hype/dramatic music makes it seem exciting like how F1 has episodes on the 16th place guy but makes it seem like he won the whole thing.

Season starts today! I bet the Flames are more competitive than people expect, but will still finish bottom 10 in the league. I think the 1st we sent to Montreal to take Monahan is top 10 protected, not sure how deep this years draft will be...

I think they'll be around the playoffs (less than 10 points out) until the deadline then they should start to ship some guys out and insert some kids, at that point they could takeoff or fall flat on their face. Unfortunately, I think that pick is going to Montreal.

They should definitely be a lot ore competitive than people expect, but I agree, something will happen around the deadline again and a veteran or two will get shipped out (my money is on Andersson). I also expect Huberdeau to start to sort his shit out, hopefully enough that a team will trade for him (Flames would have to keep half his salary, and that should keep us above the cap floor).

I missed it for my own hockey game but watched the 10-minute highlight pack this morning. Great to see them regroup and come back. Cannot underestimate what having this game as a touchstone does for a team.

Saw this on Reddit about the cost to attend a game last season across the NHL.

Flames ranked 25th at $337.82USD.

According to the source, the Fan Cost Index comprises the prices of four average-price tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-size hot dogs, parking for one hour, two game programs and two least-expensive, adult-size adjustable caps.

Seems like an odd list of items to buy but anyhow.
