A lot of the busy retail areas take the name from the neighborhood, Bridgeland, Mission, Inglewood, etc.. and some after a road like 17th ave, or Kensington. Kensington west or west Kensington kind of makes sense. West Hillhurst makes logical sense given the name of the neighborhood, but to me doesn't have a simple ring to it. I guess time will tell, maybe it'll simply be known as 19th street?

I would love to see the city rename some of the prominent streets back to their original names.
4th st sw --> Broadway Street
17th ave sw --> Notre Dame Ave
1st sw --> Scarth Street
9th ave SE --> Atlantic Ave.

Just my two cents, but I find the use of numbers for main corridor streets boring.

Was there a name before the city went with a numerical grid? If so, go with that, otherwise 19st is fine.

I think they sold a lot of those cows, but still own a few I believe.
The names used for the general area were Dairy Lane, and West Hillhurst used to be Grand Trunk and Upper Hillhurst and Parkdale Happyland. I think the it'll probably be West Nineteenth or Hillhurst. When Crave moved, they said they were moving from Kensington to Hillhurst, even though those two names overlap both their old and new locations. Same with the Freshco, they advertised they were open in Hillhurst.

Agreed on renaming to names. Although some like 17th, I think has been so ingrained that it's probably better to keep it 17th. And some streets like 1st Ave NE in the Bridgeland area, why can't it be named Bridgeland Ave?

If 19th wants to be called Hillhurst they're gonna have to get West Hillhurst to hand it over.

West Hillhurst makes logical sense
That's not a bad name, since the commercial area goes from Kensington to 6 Ave NW, where the West Hillhurst Community Association is. The FreshCo is actually on 18A, but as a resident of that neighborhood, I we always refer to it as "that street just before 19" since nobody can keep straight which are the A streets unless we live on them. Also, we call it 5 Ave NW not 6 Ave. (I prefer to think it's our own inner city lingo and not that we're all idiots.) Just yesterday we were calling the area "19-K" but not sure if we have critical mass.

BTW I am surprised and bitter b/c the FreshCo shopping carts need 25c to unlock! I already have to keep a loonie in the car for shopping carts, and haven't seen a quarter in a long time.
