Three months since we last checked in at South Bank in Inglewood, and progress has been swift. Cladding now adorns the bulk of the exterior, Opus' 5-storey mid-rise residential block now outfitted with a mix of grey spandrel and redbrick detailing.
Situated at the heart of the popular Inglewood neighbourhood along the 9th Ave SE corridor, South Bank will soon join a host of similar projects in the area that are collectively in the process of transforming it. Bringing a mix of gentle density and height to the region, South Bank and other projects nearby will together bring added pedestrian/urban vibrancy to the corridor, through a mix of new residents and retail options.
Moving in for a closer look, it is apparent that the two main material choices on hand at the Kasian-designed South Bank will be grey spandrel, and redbrick cladding. Making thus for a very earthy/stony vibe, the two materials together will work well with one another.
Furthermore, the rectilinear grid pattern of the exterior, reflected across both mediums, will help to frame the retail units below at grade, as it will the residential units above. Once complete, South Bank, with its 69 suites, and 12,000+ sq. ft. of retail, will be a fine addition to Inglewood, the project part and parcel of the area's ongoing urban transformation.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
