Two months since our last update, and the recently topped off Telus Sky continues to impress from every angle as attested by the last round of photos on our Forum. With work now underway at the top of the tower, and the cladding and glazing work nearing completion, Telus Sky has captured the imaginations of local photogs as spring weather returns to Calgary.
The 58-storey, 326-unit, DIALOG- and Bjarke Ingles-designed high-rise by Westbank has become a landmark tower for the city, its signature, twisted silhouette unmistakable from every vantage point. Beyond its unique shape, Telus Sky's smooth-to-textured, boxy aesthetic has also served to define the tower, views of which appear to change depending on the angle.
While crews continue to apply the finishing touches to the rooftop "Telus Sky Garden," the recent topping off has simultaneously resulted in the clear definition of the roofline's stepped ascent. The Sky Garden will be airy and filled with light, the perfect place for a rooftop oasis.
Once complete, 160,000 LED lights will grace the exterior of the tower as part of a massive public art installation by artist and writer Douglas Coupland. Set to illuminate the high-rise at night, the dynamic lighting feature will add some extra spice to an already highly piquant development.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
