A month since our last update, and progress at the MacKimmie Tower redevelopment has been moving along swiftly. As evidenced by the latest deluge of photos on our Forum, the tower's new glass exoskeleton has now climbed roughly a third of the way to the top.

Designed by DIALOG for the UofC, the MacKimmie Tower retrofit is part of a larger undertaking known officially as the MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties Redevelopment. For its part, the re-imagined tower will become home to the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, which will host a year-round contingent of 500 full-load business students.

The tower's new exterior will give the structure a bold, modern, look and character, the smooth, diagrid glass curtain wall to greatly enhance its silhouette and overall presence. The curtain wall will form something of an exoskeleton once complete, the panels themselves bolted to a comprehensive steel frame that has been built across the entirety of the tower.

Set for completion later this year, the re-clad MacKimmie Tower will soon be one of the architectural crown jewels of the UofC campus. For now, however, we must wait patiently until the next round of photos.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
