Three weeks since we last checked in at the MacKimmie Tower redevelopment, and progress on the massive modernization and retrofit effort has been moving along smoothly. The arrival of several dozen palettes full of spandrel and glass paneling has garnered a great deal of excitement on our Forum, its gradual ascent from the base of the tower cause for celebration.

With all of the framework now in place to receive the 15-storey tower's glass exoskeleton, and the first couple of rows of glass already in place, it will not be long before the project truly begins to take shape. Already, as evidenced by the image above, the tower's newfound bulk appears to serve the high-rise well, its broadened stance to help make this a standout structure.

Designed by DIALOG for the UofC, the re-imagined MacKimmie Tower is but the larger of two structures which  form the MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties Redevelopment project. The tower will soon become home to the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, which will be equipped with a year-round contingent of 500 full-load business students.

Viewed above, the star of the show remains the few rows of glass exoskeleton glazing which have already begun to make their way up the tower. Once complete, the revamped MacKimmie Tower and Complex will be an excellent addition to the campus - a sign of the UofC's commitment to design excellence and innovation.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
