Two months since our last update, and progress at The Hub excavation site in northwest Calgary has been moving along well, with heavy machinery crews digging deep ahead of construction. Developed by Campus Suites and designed by ARK Inc., The Hub will consist of a 28-storey, 328-unit rental tower aimed at students, the project to sit at the intersection of Banff Trail and 16 Ave NW, close to transit and the UofC main campus.

Located along northwest Calgary's longstanding "Motel Village," the development sits within the Banff Trail Station Area Redevelopment Plan zone, thereby becoming the first of many new high-density retail and/or retail projects slated to remake the entire neighbourhood. The proximity to the Banff Trail CTrain station, as well as the UofC, will help make The Hub a viable option for students looking to rent close to campus without foregoing a quick connection to the core.

While the area's notoriously sandy soil proved an initial challenge to the development, crews have now moved on to full on excavation mode, it to be not long now until foundation and shoring work begins.

Once complete, The Hub will represent an influx of roughly 400 students and young professionals into the redevelopment zone - these first few hundred pioneers to forge a new neighbourhood.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
