A month since last checking in at the site of Calgary's favourite high-rise and progress at the DIALOG-and-Bjarke Ingles-designed Telus Sky has been moving along swiftly, the tower's ascent matched by the rise of its distinctive glass exterior. Creeping upwards, the boxy glass window bays that make up the exterior are now only about a dozen floors from the top, the tower's unique silhouette inspiring endless photos captured from every angle.
The aforementioned bays can be seen in close-up below, and have been formed by a mix of glass, metal framing, and black spandrel. Transitioning from smooth to textured, Telus Sky relies upon many of the same visual cues as its West Coast cousin, Vancouver House.
Telus Sky will eventually be illuminated using a 160,000 square-foot LED public art installation, known as "Northern Lights," which has been designed by artist and author Douglas Coupland. Viewed below from street level, Telus Sky has already become a downtown staple, its presence greatly adding to the core's ever-increasing metropolitan vibe.
Once complete, the 60-storey, 326-unit Telus Sky will deliver up to 500 new residents to the city centre, thereby adding to Calgary's pedestrian vibrancy and urban character.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
