Two months since our last update, and progress at the site of the DIALOG-and-Bjarke Ingles-designed Telus Sky has been moving along well, with cladding application work continuing ahead of the tower's imminent topping off. With glazing work now roughly 75% complete, the 60-storey tower is beginning to take on a much more finished look, giving locals a fair idea of how Calgary's third tallest structure will appear upon completion.
Viewed above, Telus Sky's signature twist has taken on a much smoother appearance thanks to the completion of glazing work across the bottom 3/4 of the tower. The transition from smooth to textured is made all the more dramatic depending on the viewing angle, appearing above to have assumed an almost M.C. Escher-like quality.
Viewed above from what appears to be a dark alley, Telus Sky shines against the Calgary sky, reflecting back an image of the iconic Calgary Tower. Once complete, Telus Sky will be illuminated by an exterior lighting system designed by artist and author Douglas Coupland, known as "Northern Lights," which will consist of a 160,000 square-foot LED public art installation.
Viewed from 7 Ave SW, Telus Sky has already begun to blend into its urban context. Once complete, Telus Sky will join fellow Calgary icons, Brookfield Place and The Bow, as the tallest towers in town.
SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
