A month since our last update, and the modular, LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture-designed ALT Hotel has all but reached completion. Ready for its close-up, the jet black exterior has brought a futuristic vibe to East Village, the 11-storey, 155-room room hotel greeting the street with a double-height glass and brick podium.

Assembled block-by-block by developer Groupe Germain, ALT Hotel promises to bring a cool, modern vibe to the neighbourhood, the gambit to hopefully translate into a steady flow of guests. The ALT Hotel fills a gap in the East Village, the rapidly transforming district just east of the core having almost overnight become a destination unto itself.

Viewed from below, the glass and brick podium level works to soften the unforgiving grid pattern of the tower above, helping ease the development's transition down to street level.

Set for imminent completion, ALT Hotel's signage suggests it will be soon be welcoming its first guests. Once complete, ALT Hotel will be a welcome addition to the area, bringing a new variety of clientele into the East Village, thereby placing Calgary's newest neighbourhood on the map.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
