A month since we last checked in at the site of the ALT Hotel, and exterior work has continued to make steady progress as cladding and glazing work nears completion. Designed by LEMAYMICHAUD Architecture for Groupe Germain, the modular, 11-storey, 155-room hotel will soon become the latest addition to Calgary's rapidly rising East Village.

Assembled block-by-block, ALT Hotel represents a first for the city, modular construction on this scale as of yet unprecedented. Having allowed for a faster than usual build time, progress has now moved to the lower levels, with decorative masonry cladding having recently been applied in full.

Featuring a mix of different massings, volumes, and textures, ALT Hotel cuts an impressive figure upon the East Village skyline, the project to attract hundreds of visitors and business travellers to the area.

Once complete, ALT Hotel may very well kickstart a modular trend in Calgary, its merit to be tested out in the years to come as the structure weathers its first few winters and summers in Western Canada.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
