Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Oh frick! Another 10-year conversion incoming.

  • Barron Building (610 8th Ave. SW, Calgary) – Targeting Spring 2026 completion with 124 high end rentals;
  • One01 (101 6th Ave. SW, Calgary) – The former Hanover office tower in downtown Calgary has been renamed and will have 314 residential suites with expected occupancy in November
I was looking at Chevron Plaza and I assume they're going to need to replace all the glazing. I wonder if they'll go for a reflective look like it has now.

The first one is a 6 storey project at 101 25 AV SW in Mission, being called "Shorecrest", that will have 74 units. Architect is Manu Chugh and developer is "Mission River Capital Corp".

I had noted a land use change here. Definitely not the greatest looking building but the location, right next to the elbow is nice for whoever will live there. Was hoping for more of a nest type building here but I could probably say that on any property this size.

It's a nice little project. Not architecturally stunning, but fits the location. Sadly, there's already small apartment building already there, so it'll be only a mild density upgrade, but the new build will most likely be smaller units that are more expensive.

I know that micro units are very en vogue right now, and they work great in places like Europe and Asia where homeowners spend the majority of their time outside of their homes. But to me, Calgary isnt one of those places that is vibrant or exciting enough to make me want to spend most of my time outside of my home (especially in winter).
