Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Not sure if it is quite what you are looking for, but 8th AVe and 5th Street SE in East Village is raised up so there is very little deflection down from the sidewalk to the cross-walk:
Thanks, it's like barely visible. I talked to one of the project teams at the open house for a different street redesign and these raised intersections seems to be mid-height between the road and sidewalk and it just seemed like a very small difference that I was curious if it would actually make any difference to driving speed.

Not an intersection, but mid block on 3rd avenue in Chinatown between Centre street and 1st street SE has a raised crosswalk.
Thanks! Yea I've seen a couple raised sidewalks, but for some odd shaped intersection, where the roads don't perfectly align (i.e. 19th street and 2nd ave NW), they are raising the whole intersection, but lower than a raised sidewalk.

I’m loving all this new development in and around Stampede Park, but my God, will they save or preserve anything? Corral and original BMO demolished, Saddledome soon to be demolished, they announced the agriculture building will probably be demolished in the next few years, there have been lingering rumours about the Big 4 coming down, and now maybe Weadickville? What’s left other than the grandstand?
I think I'm one of the few who actually kinda like the Big Four building. I think with a bit of modernizing, painting the outside, complimentary outdoor lighting features, adding retail units into the main floor area, the building would be quite iconic. The 1950s flair adds some charm to the stampede.

From the executive committee meeting later today. Not opposed to generating additional revenue but please not have it be another developer.

Calgary Stampede received $90M land deal as part of Scotia Place agreements

Cowley said the Stampede is currently working on a design to develop a hotel on the nearly two acre Weadickville site
Weadickville site officially confirmed
Aside from the land trade, the City of Calgary also purchased two acres of land from the Stampede on the west side of Stampede Trail across from the Scotia Place site. As part of the event centre agreements, the City of Calgary is giving Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) the option to purchase up to four nearby parcels within two years of moving into the new event centre.
The two parcels bought from the Stampede are on the north and south sides of 14th Ave West of Stampede Trail. The other two available to CSEC are the NE corner lot of Scotia Place, and the parking lot south of Scotia Place (Saddledome lot A).

Weadickville's a good spot for a hotel, being right on the LRT and entering into 17th ave. A few more developments in the 4 blocks west of Macleod along 17th and the area could really turn around. Opening the Stampede to 17th was a game changer and It's not a matter of if the area improves, but how long.

"Sobeys is also following suit, with plans for a 12,000-square-foot urban format store in the Beltline area, just outside downtown Calgary." Anyone know where this is supposed to be? Wonder if it's closer to 17th instead of where Safeway/Coop is already.

The space under Two Park Central would be a great spot for a grocery store. But yeah also the Sunterra location would be good too.
