I would have much preferred they put those stylised barriers between the cars and the bike lane instead of between the bike lane and the sidewalk

It's time for another episode of "I share an idea that will never happen but totally should"!
Let's pay TLOU to keep most of this set up after they're done filming.. and call it "Apocalypse Park"!
Would unironically be a really neat place to visit, for both tourists and locals. Rearrange things, add nice lighting, some neon signs, a bunch of picnic tables. Maybe spots for food trucks and 1 or 2 restaurants - something trendy like Cold Garden would be cool as hell.
And in an ironic twist, it would even look less depressing than what was previously there:

Definitely ambitious. A good start will be to reduce Main Street to 2 lanes and introduce cycling infrastructure as they seem to propose in the renderings. The biggest challenge is going to be creating a consistent main street feel given all of the existing buildings are setback at varying distances from the street, and the buildings closest to the street all face the parking lots rather than Main Street. Either way, filling the parking lots with new buildings and new soft/hard-scaping will be a vast improvement.Proposed area redevelopment plan for the downtown in motion

The slope on that site makes things pretty tricky. The last proposal I remember for that location was for a cohousing project, but costs to build meant it never got off the ground unfortunately:
