General Construction Updates

Not quite Calgary related, but does anyone know what is being built north of the Tsuut'ina rodeo grounds beside Highway 22 by Bragg Creek? Look like a bunch of multi-family housing or something..

Thought this was related to the Tsuut'ina question at first...

Nothing specific, and I did say "ah frick" when I read this: "The Government of Alberta administers the CCBF on behalf of the Government of Canada"

I hate that Calgary is essentially an arm of the Provincial government... I'm not sure why there cannot be exceptions made for direct funding for major cities.

Money is for "Investments in foundational infrastructure projects – like public transit, water systems, and local roads and bridges."

A lot project categories... "In 2025-26, Alberta will receive $276,195,088 to make strategic infrastructure investments across 19 project categories."

As I stated I don't trust the GOA and that municipal affairs minister. We'll see.

Is this for non indigenous people?

Interesting. Hope it's a success because something like this is desperately needed, this city is turning into a meth infested sewer. I'm sure the people of Redwood Meadows and Bragg Creek are less than stoked though...

This is an announcement of nothing. Every government does these "announcements". This is the same funding that happens every year, and used to be called the Gas Tax Fund. The feds, province and city have an agreement and we receive approx. $80M a year.

This is what it funded in 2024: (Obviously this totals more than $80M, but that's likely because projects like ACT are phased, so it was accepted in 2024, but the actual costs are over future years).

While I'm in favour of more aggressive enforcement/prevention on the front end, I think more of exactly this is needed for those who want help on the back end. Treatment centers out in the countryside, away from the temptation of the streets, where people can focus on recovery in a positive environment. Nature is healing, man.

The renovation to Suncor looks promising so far, can't wait to see it when it's done. Kinda has a Brookfield vibe to it, but with the horrible rusty brown colour of Suncor lol.

I don't want to jinx it, but I think the Marda Loop streetscape work may be finishing up. As far as I know the following sections remain, all of which are in progress:
  • South side of 34 Ave between 21 and 22 St
  • South side of 34 Ave between 17 and 18 St
  • Both sides of 19 St from 33 to 34 Ave
  • Fixing of the ripped up sidewalk outside of the proposed Central Taps location on 33 Ave
  • Various final landscaping
  • Final repave of 33 and 34 Ave
Of course this doesn't include the lots of the Co-op location and Gryphon, both of which were never started. Yesterday they were doing hydrovac work right beside the finished landscaping on the Safeway side of 34 Ave West of 22 St. Not sure why they waited until the work was done.

Officially this is the last construction season for this. But once Co-Op starts it's going to be another big closure in a pretty prominent location. The city seems to want to do Sunalta 10th Ave next for Main Streets. Probably makes sense to do a low-impact one after all the public blowback from Marda Loop.

If they phase it one block at a time, that will be better than doing the entire area simultaneously. I think I remember reading on here that it was the Marda Loop CA that pushed for the entire project to happen at once?
