General Construction Updates

I'm not sure why that corner of downtown is such a magnet for ugly.
In addition to the completely car-centric transportation mindset the city has imposed in the area the past 6 decades. The highest density area that has had the least attention to the public realm and ground-floor spaces in the city. High-speed 5 and 6 lanes one-ways don't help with the ambience.

Even though Stampede is going on, they are still holding a planning commission meeting next week. Here is the agenda:
https://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Docum...commission/agenda/2018/agenda-cpc-july-12.pdf

Only one DP going, and it is a suburban location, but may be of interest. Overlooking the bow river, in the community of patterson. Item 5.01, page 19/167. Should be some pretty good views from those units. DP drawings start on page 39.

Item 6.03 is a density bump for a parcel on Centre Street (page 77/167)
Item 6.04 is Courtyard 33 for RNDSQR (land use only, not DP). Page 89/167. You get a sense of the floor plans (including 2nd floor courtyard) starting on page 126.

I don’t know if there’s a thread for this, it’s Truman’s project in West District.

Peace Bridge plaza looks nice. I was hoping to see a few more trees (along with some different varieties) being planted to give a nice green canopy feel in the summer and a variety of colours in the fall but still not bad. If I remember correctly those discs in the concrete were originally supposed to be photoluminescent to give the pathway a 'glow in the dark' look. I wonder if that's still the case? Hopefully the city can at least get it open before Stampede is over. It would be nice for people to enjoy the plaza during our peak tourist time.

I don't know. It looks like a condo or office park forecourt. Very pretty but, what can you do there? This is an urban waterfront. There's needs to be more spaces that allows more active programming than yet another place to sit in quiet contemplation.

They could have left out one or two of the planters in the middle area, and as @Mountain Man mentioned, have some room for a a couple of kiosks or something..

Heard that too, I hope it doesn't start Ken King and the Flames off again on their quest to build the $1.8B sandwich, aka CalgaryNEXT. That was the spot they were going for more or less, wasn't it?

This project is by Statesman Homes and is called The Views. 58 luxury condos. They have been selling it for about a year now. Good to see some activity on this one.
