Same thoughts here. The tower is solid, even quite nice, but the podium does't make much sense to me at all.

The podium is a complete urban design fail. I could care less about the tower. If this was the project that would help revitalize the pedestrian wasteland that west downtown is, then i have little hope. Unfortunate...

Prepare yourself. If you see how much spandrel is going on the tower at the bottom you’ll probably get an indication of how much will be at the top. I can’t bring myself to photograph it when I go by it.

The top will be 100% spandrel, it's all mechanical and building maintenance up there, vision glass would be a waste. I'd rather they went with a cladding panel than spndrel personally.

I think some of you guys might be being a bit harsh on this project (although it’s somewhat warranted based on the Hat). Regardless of cladding, I think the oblique angles of the MPH on this one really add some formal interest to the skyline, as we don’t have many angular shaped buildings right now. I don’t even mind the podium - the textured aluminum panel looks pretty good for what it is.
I'm going to wait until the crown is completed, as the type of spandrel chosen could make a all the difference. It could end look looking pretty good, but could also go the other way too. Positive thoughts Everyone. ?

I sort of agree, Art, but is the beautiful angular crown is completely clad in hideous grey-blue spandrel, then it will essentially ruin the entire tower's presence in the skyline. As the tower completely dominates the western side of the skyline, it will have potential to ruin the whole skyline (since there are gonna be three of these potential shitspires).
Yup. If the spandrel is dark...dark gray or dark blue, I think it'll be fine, even if it was bright white it'd be fine. 'Aura tower' gray, not so much.
