Snow and frozen ground is nothing to these mechanical beasts. What will stop them is water and mud.

It will take a while before it even gets to grade judging by the size of the excavation. Ive worked construction during my summers in uni and I know how big of pain the parkade can be. This one will definitely take a good part of this whole year before we start noticing it becoming something significant.

It's a lot of dirt to move.
Weather permitting, the first tower could be above grade by the end of March. They will be still excavating should it cover the whole site.

It's just the 'ramp' area left to remove that it was best to keep until both cranes were in. They're pouring slabs and columns on both sides of the ramp.
Edit: NM. I see in some older but recent photos they still have the north section to do.

This one is going to take a while just to get the whole thing to ground level. And then u add more time to top all 3 towers off. I can see why they chose to move ahead with this one. By the time its done the economy will be in another state.

It looks like they may not be going ahead with the north portion after all. That's too bad.

With the shoring right around the building site, wouldn’t it be hard to hide the steel berms in the landscape if they decided to not proceed with that building.
Maybe they are waiting to get the south portion of the podium built before starting the North section. Just a thought

It could be they will use the north side for staging until the south side is to grade and shift everything there. There's opportunity for a redesign the longer the north tower sits unbuilt. Right now they're triplets which is not very interesting.

Man I keep forgetting about this project. Great pics, this site is huge. Hopefully it pumps some life into the west end of DT.
