Looks good to me! Still, I can't help but feel it would've been nice to round out the project with at least one highrise as a sort of "icon" to the community.

I noticed they're also putting in a recreation centre, which is a big bonus.

12 - 18 storeys in the farflung burbs is fine. Agree that it'll make for a more human-scaled neighbourhood. This will still have an impressive skyline, especially for a Calgary suburb.

Amended plans for The Rise have been posted online now, taking into account the height reduction that is coming with the change in plans for the land use.

I was hoping they would have just cut out some of the floors of the original design, not a wholesale change to the architecture.

Yeah, the rendering quality is not quite the same but it looks like most of hte project is unchanged. The tower isn't as striking, but as Albertasaurus pointed out, that may be because it wil not be nearly as noticeable either. The new tower design also doesn't necessarily look bad, it is just the original was quite good.
 
My guess is that it was always going to switch to the new design which is clearly VE'd. It has more similar architectural components to the rest of the buildings which probably has some cost savings.

Throw in a fancy render to try to win the crowd. Once height is approved, VE it. Height didn't get approved so just go back to the original design.

Radio Park is coming along. I have heard the official ribbon cutting has now been bumped back to the fall, but the park itself can hopefully have a soft opening this summer:
