My opinion is that they see VIA and Go Trains hampered by freight and think, we can't do that here. They're probably right.
Agree 1000%. the recently scaled down the GO Train expansion because of cost, even though many trains travel like snails that busses are faster during non-rush hour. If they cut corners now, it'll be a generation until they're revisiting it and the cost now is going to look so cheap. My opinion is that they see VIA and Go Trains hampered by freight and think, we can't do that here. My prediction/hope: 2037. Reality: 2040.We need Banff rail ASAP
Ugh! I’m either going to be too old to travel anymore or, god forbid, dead by that time!My prediction/hope: 2037. Reality: 2040.
The train to Airdrie will be done before that.Ugh! I’m either going to be too old to travel anymore or, god forbid, dead by that time!
They're in their 80s maybe late 70s so they are not commuting anywhere. They had a really nice place on the island and probably sold for a lot of money. The place they're buying in Airdrie is probably pretty nice. From eye, there's just nothing really to do, are there even good parks in Airdrie?See if you can find out what the sales pitch entailed. I would be so curious. I am assuming that being a great uncle, they are past the point of needing an affordable home within a decent commute of an employment opportunity.
Alberta's long term care system is miles ahead of BC, and much much much more economical for the user, no matter their income level. I'd hazard that that is a concern in this case. They're in their 80s maybe late 70s so they are not commuting anywhere. They had a really nice place on the island and probably sold for a lot of money. I have a coworker who commutes from Airdrie on their bus into downtown. From what they say it is pretty quick, the issue is if you miss the bus you are waiting a very long time for the next one.
Would healthcare access be part of it? Depending on where they are on the island, if they require regular health visits at a major hospital, that's potentially a few hours of driving/ferrying each time, whereas Foothills or PLC is within 30 mins of Airdrie. The train to Airdrie will be done before that.
Actual conversation with my mom this weekend about someone's great uncle: "So and so are moving from Vancouver Island to Airdrie, they have friends there that really sold them on it."
I just about fell over.
