I meant to say with the losses of smaller eclectic/independent businesses.Why do consider this to be ‘losses of the businesses?’
There will be ground floor retail in this development. There could actually be more businesses here, but with way better utilization of the land.
There are so many areas in the city where this sort of development would add to the area. For example ripping up Westbrook mall and replacing it with a mall on the main floor, and condo buildings everywhere.
They’ll be replaced by chain businesses, but overall it’s still a win. As the building ages it’ll become cheaper retail stock.
