four months until its topped out?

The elevators in tower 1 shut down and flooded in yesterday’s storm. Residents say “no elevators for foreseeable future”. Rough!
 
The tower probably has 4 elevators. How can all four be knockout for an indeterminate amount of time?

In other cities with more sophisticated rental markets and rental cultures walk up apartments rents followed the accessibility gradient - top floors are often cheaper as you had to walk up farther.

Lots of these cities also have moving services that load your big stuff like couches and beds via the balcony too, so at least you don’t have to lug that stuff up 6 flights.

That was basically my situation at the time. Top floor of a former tenement building, in the uncoolest part of town...it's what made it remotely affordable for a college student to live in Manhattan (well that and roommate).

Definitely didn't have to worry about lifting any furniture though! It's pretty easy to do when you don't have any (slept on an air mattress, and the coffee table was found on the street).
