Good catch. What's going on there? Staircase for giants alongside one for normal humans? Just forms that haven't been removed yet?

The "giant steps" are sitting areas, usually used for studying. I'm surprised this is being seen as a new concept here. The Taylor Institute of Teaching and Learning (completed 2016) at U of C has a huge area for it, as does the new Schulich School of Engineering, the Ryerson Student Centre in Toronto, and... yeah, tons of places nowadays. It works very well. My favourite study spaces at the U of C are actually built like that.

To clarify, the study area is the right side of the combined "staircase" in the picture, while the actual steps are to the left, the shallower steps.

  • Thanks for filling us in. All I knew is that weren't steps. I was done school 12 years ago and I'm too old to loiter around checking out the student population. There hasn't been a reason to stay attuned to modern study spaces for a long time.

Looking better as it nears completion (still wish it had more clear glass). The landscaping will really elevate this if it is done properly. I assume there are plans to fix the road in the last picture once the building is complete?
