I have to imagine so. At more than 500$ per square foot I doubt that anything but very good reasons changed the glazing design. The heat loads caused may have required have that would have messed up the interior even more.

I like the way the wood ties in the upper spandrel portion with the lower glass and stone portion. The part I'm most anxious to see finished is the curved wood in the tunnel. So far so good.

I actually think this is going to still look amazing upon completion. That large cluster of glass over top of the through-way gives me hope that the northern prominence is going to be substantially transparent glass, which will save this beauty :D

The wood is on the bland too. The archway should look really good.

The wood won't look stellar, but it will contrast the coldness of the metal and glass nicely. I really hope they didn't cheap out though, weathered and grey wood will not help what is already a bit disappointing. Walked by this the other day and the massing and layout are still impressive, so we will have a great building in the end, but it looks already like it could have been so much better, especially considering the cost.

I've been googling similar buildings. I'm coming around to the idea that more clear glass wouldn't have made too much of a difference. It's the use of unitized curtainwall panels for a pattern that demanded a scratch built facade.

The scratch built curtain wall shouldn't limit the amount of glass that goes in by that much, especially when they use so much spandrel glass. My guess is that there are services spaces (mechanical / electrical) behind that area that don't require much light. With the West facade facing the wall that is the Municipal Building, it was likely decided that that side is less desirable than the east facade. Hopefully the east side will have more glass and be more open looking.
