Should’ve been a mixed use development with waterslides 🌊💅
I always thought an enclosed waterpark with a retractable wall or two for the summer, would be very cool. You could have a rental and hotel component with balconies looking out onto the waterpark that I'm sure would be a hit in the winter and even in the summer. At night they could turn into a Vegas style pool/bar. Maybe there's no market for it but a guy can dream.

The waterpark is literally the only thing that I’m jealous of from Shelbyville.

Wasn't an indoor water park one of the reuse ideas floated for the saddledome?

Perfect location for it IMO, makes a great destination for elbow river floats in the summer, and it would draw a lot of people to the area in the winter when the stampede grounds doesn't see as much traffic.
That might actually be feasible. If used as a waterpark it wouldn't need the current roof, it could use a cable mesh with a tarp style roof, and my understanding is the roof is the main issue with the Dome.

Bonzai Waterslide Ad

I only ever recall driving by and seeing the top of the slides, were they really as dangerous as I've heard? Also I seem to recall hearing that warehouse just north was an all ages night club at some point?
The night club was called Flipside and opened in the Fall of 1985. It only lasted about a year or so.

Banzai Waterslide was dangerous by today' s standards but unremarkable to feral Gen X kids. The tube slide had a concrete bottom with expansion joints and a rough surface that would cause serious abrasions. The tubes sort of provided protection but they were like actual tire tunes with exposed valve stems and a surface texture that could also abrade when not really wet. The 4 other slides were safe but back then you could ride head first and the life guards didn't have to wait for the previous rider to splash down before the next rider launched. The really dangerous waterslide was Waterside in Medicine Hat. It was really long and riders could build up serious speed. I really miss that one.
