Calgary International Airport

Story talks about Transborder only being down slightly at YYC compared to rest of Canada. One reason would definitely because WS is dropping flights in smaller Airports and moving the passengers to Calgary ie… YEG-ATL YLW-SEA and reducing other destinations and routing them here. I’m good with that. Keep the Fortress humming!

I was wondering if YYC would stay fairly buoyant compared to other cities, in particular the other cities in western Canada, due to it having such a high amount of hub connections.

New direct services Spring/Summer 2025, to summarize:
(The article didn't cover the 2 domestic destinations, but they're also new this season)

April 12th: Munich on 4Y (passed)
May 14th: Mexico City on WS (tonight)
May 16th: Minneapolis on WS
June 7th: LaGuardia on AA
June 10th: Sydney NS on WS
June 11th: Hamilton on PD
June 12th: Sudbury on WS
June 29th: Anchorage on WS
June 30th: Raleigh/Durham on WS

Pretty solid roster of new destinations this season. Hoping for more in S26 🤞
RDU starts on June 9.

YYC updated their website to include more information about closures in the area for the G7. The tunnel on Airport Tr will be closed from June 15th to 18th, and lots of areas on airport grounds and surrounding the airport will be closed/have no stopping zones from the 14th to 18th.

Big changes to domestic baggage delivery coming today. No longer will WS / AC have their own dedicated baggage areas, but you'll pick them up in the area you arrive.

For example if you arrive in D/C your bags will come to claims 10-7 and if you arrive in A your bags will come out on carousels 1-3. The intention is the avoid those long walks, namely on WS when you arrive domestic into gate D80 and have to walk all the way to meeting place A to collect your luggage.

So I'm in Seoul right now. On my flight the two people next to me were a guy from Saskatoon visiting his GF's family in China and a Korean student living in Alabama (maybe drove to Atlanta and flew out from there?). She said it was fhe best deal for her. Shows how, anecdotally, lots of people from outside AB using our new WJ flights. Flight was full as far as I could tell.

Interesting as the Saskatoon person likely would've gone through Vancouver and the Alabama person has probably ten other options. I appreciate their airport fees haha.

Great to see, hopefully we can funnel more americans through Calgary to Asia. It would help keep the American routes going during the Trump era. I'll be coming from Seoul direct back to Calgary in a couple of months. Looking forward to seeing where the other passengers are from.

BTW, what did you think of Seoul?

It's actually my second time here but first time was many years ago. Only here a few days then off to Japan. Loving it, friendly people and very reasonably priced, great food and the best fried chicken in the world!

I'm pumped. I'll be starting in Japan and finishing in Korea. Looking forward to the Seoul street food.
