Don't we have one of the highest percentage of US citizens in the country? And we also serve as a connection point for many travelers, so hard to tell how much of it is from Calgary proper.

It used to be the case, but I recall someone dug up the stats and found we weren't anymore.
On a positive note. I was happy to see the number of Americans coming to YYC was up by 10% this march.
In the same month, 33,038 U.S. residents entered Calgary via air travel, an increase from 30,832 in the same timeframe last year.

They expanded the transborder lounge an it's now co-branded with Westjet.
"Additionally, Platinum, Gold and Silver WestJet Rewards members, as well as guests seated in the Business cabin on WestJet’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, are eligible for complimentary access to the Aspire WestJet Garden lounge based on their tier benefits. Rewards members will also receive priority on the waitlist."
I thought this line was weird, do they even fly the 787-9 to any transborder destinations?

Mostly for food. Many lounges are crowded nowadays that it's even busier than the gate. But if you have comp access through a credit card or status, might as well go get some free food instead of paying out of pocket. The Elevation lounge is actually quite nice, food and drinks wise, but it's crowded and hard to get access unless you're flying business or have status.

My wife would never allow us to go to the airport without already having bought food to eat, we also bring a empty water bottle to fill. So I guess I'll never bother going to the lounge.

I go because the seats are way more comfortable and it's usually a little quieter. The food is forgettable for the most part.

Westjet's recent schedule update shows further changes to YYC's American services, unsurprisingly.
FLL has been officially removed, and LAX/SFO/MCO all saw frequency reductions. SEA surprisingly got bumped from 21x to 22x weekly, but capacity is still a net decrease from the pre-trade war numbers.

FLL has only been suspended for June, it appears back again in July. SEA goes from all 737 to a mix of 737 and Q400. On Saturday's YYC-SEA shows 4x Q400, so it's still a drop in seats. It's odd they choose to drop FLL over say TPA, when FLL had better bookings?
Surprised that DEN is still planned at 10x weekly. Some routes are still above where they were in 2024, like IAD, SNA, SAN.

This values the airline at 2.2B US, which they originally bought for 3.5B US in 2019. It's a loss in equity value and since half of that was Covid, I doubt cashflow was all that positive.Onex selling minority stakes in WestJet to Delta and Korean Air

Depends if it includes the various different parts. Is this investment in WestJet the parent company or only WestJet the airline? If it is only the airline, there is also Sunwing Vacations Group (the merged vacation operator), and WestJet Rewards. Along with the seemingly defunct cargo division, and Encore.
