Calgary Flames Official Thread

Seeing as there are others who have admitted cheering for Toronto, I'll come out of closet too.

30 years ago there was no way I'd ever cheer for Montreal or Toronto. Part of that was the frustration that Hockey night in Canada only seemed to think there were two teams in Canada. Here in Alberta we had one of the greatest teams in history with the greatest player in history, and a team here in Calgary with 6 future NHL fall of famers, but CBC didn't know we existed lol.

Anyhow that's all in the past. I'd like to see the Leafs win the cup or at least get to the cup.

Somehow you have never met an obnoxious Leafs fan, tell me your secret?
I have, but not in recent years. Leaf fans old enough to remember them winning a cup have either passed away or have Alzheimers and can’t remember it.
The leaf fans I meet nowadays talk about how hard it is being a fan lol

Calgary Flames at the World Championships are doing well. Nice to see Klapka doing so well.

Also, for the first time I can really remember two flames prospects are in the memorial cup. Last time I can recall is Tkachuk being there with the London Knights.

The Leafs are going to have to do some soul-searching here. It’s now an ongoing thing that they can’t get it done. Granted the teams they’ve been losing to have either gone to the final or won the cup. They need to level up somehow.

Every team has their issues. Carolina is 0-13 now after last night in their past 13 Eastern Conference Final games.

So as a Flames fan would I rather suffer not making playoffs or suffer being swept 4 straight times in the conference final? (and my answer is I want to be in the conference finals every year, win or lose)

Fandom is about suffering, only 1/32 win, might as well get to feel a little high on your team every spring.

As a longtime Sens fan, I have always hated the Leafs. This year, it feels that they've reached such a level of playoff haplessness that even I can't help but feel sorry for them. Sure, they beat my team in the first round, but were expected to by just about everyone, and the Sens' future looks a lot brighter than the Leafs' does at this point.

And I will also agree that the obnoxious Leafs fan of years past is long gone. Modern-day Leafs fans that I know, for the most part, own the fact that their team is now pushing 60 years of disappointment.

Also hate the people that talk about how much pressure the Leafs are under. What pressure? Boston traded their captain one season after winning the President's Trophy, Vegas didn't sign their Conn Smythe winner, Colorado traded Rantenan over like 200k? The Leafs won 2 rounds in 9 years with the stars failing to deliver in every game 7, yet they sign some of the highest contracts in the league. Imagine if Ohtani or LeBron complained about the pressure of LA or Judge in NY, they'd get laughed out of town.

I have been hearing the excuse this year that the Leafs are under unique pressure compared to other teams, and I think that's rubbish. Iconic pro sports teams whose fan bases expect them to win - the Yankees, Dodgers, Lakers, Man United, Patriots and many more - figure out how to get it done. Heck, the Habs have just as expectant a fan base and got to the Cup a few years back.
