I'm actually sceptical whether that ribbon jumbotron in the Intuit Dome will catch on. It's gonna be a pain in the ass to maintain because it hovers over seats and cant just be lowered down to the arena floor like jumbotrons usually are and the acoustics are gonna be a pain in the ass to tune for concerts. You also risk blocking audience noise from the upper bowl in a similar way the roof / press boxes do for the press level of the Saddledome.

I'd say it has a very low chance of catching on. Wildly expensive i am sure, and as a "viewer", what exactly is the net positive. Certainly some more stats that would otherwise go on auxiliary boards, but the viewing arena for replays and stuff is actually smaller than a normal board.

I'm on the fence about whether to renovate McMahon, or to put our efforts into a smaller stadium/large field house say around 20-25,000 that could be used for multiple sports. I've been to a couple of football matches in Europe in stadiums that were smaller, and it was quite enjoyable. The smaller footprint allowed the stadiums to integrate better with the surrounding neighbourhood, you hardly noticed them until you right in front of them. One of the ones I liked was this stadium in Villarreal Spain. It holds 23,000 and has a nice atmosphere, and you can see here it's not overpowering in the neighborhood. I'm not saying that exact design, but something more compact in a more central location that blends in with its surroundings. I haven't been to the new TD Place stadium at Lansdowne, but that's also another example. Something in that style of footprint and in a more central location.
 
I'm all for a smaller stadium like your Villarreal example. With it's failing demographics I don't really see the CFL getting back to ever needing 40-50K stadiums again any time soon, and a smaller stadium would just have more atmosphere for them and for the Cavalry if they ever want to be closer to the city.

And yeah, I love stadiums that integrate instead of overwhelm. There are ton of them in Europe, but here in North America, I remember the Timbers stadium in Portland integrating really well.

Apart from the McMahon lands, I could even see something like this working well directly next to UD (perhaps where the existing soccer field is), where it could directly draw from a young population always on the lookout for some (cheap) entertainment. Make it a more accessible alternative to the NHL, and I think you could build yourself a pretty good fanbase more akin to what you get at American college towns.
 
I could see something in the 30k capacity area making sense. Personally, I would do something just north of the Franklin Station. A design like McMahon could work with the 1 end being very open and placed correctly would offer a great skyline view (though may be bad for wind). If engineered correctly, noise to the residential areas in the south could be minimized and directly west, north and east likely don't care much. That would allow for more concerts/music festivals to make the facility a little more viable. Perhaps Cavalry too, as I recall reading a while ago that MLS was an aspiration for the club.

Additionally, I feel like the industrial area North of Memorial between Barlow and 36th could be prime for residential. Starting around a new stadium and moving North to 16 Ave. Much of the area is close to LRT, as the line turns north on 36th. This is likely a 50 year project, but with quick access to DT and suburban amenities along 36 Street, it's almost the best of both worlds and I could see there being demand for housing. If someone proposed a building with 25 floors at Centre Ave and 28 St today, I can't imagine the opposition would be very high and that that exists wouldn't be credible.

Barlow and 36 St. Probably never change, but the middle area could be good over the very long term with a stadium as an anchor.

That lot beside Franklin LRT is quite a good location, you could even do a fieldhouse there as it is quite accessible from Deerfoot. Won't happen as their heart is set on Foothills Athletic Park. Good luck to them working with the University, they can't get proper academic funding from the Province let alone athletic funding.

Honestly I wouldn't fret much about the design timeline. Everything is a countback from Aug/Sept '27, and you're talking MAX 32 months of construction, so as much as people DESIRE renderings for their own personal satisfaction, it practically makes no sense for them to be at this stage yet, earth will not be dug until October. USE THE TIME, DONT RUSH ANYTHING!! I'd bet we see something June/July.

RMBR summer is festival season, arenas sit mostly dark July/Aug aside from the odd show....IMO they are not going to use Stampede as a trial for the new arena, then have nothing use it for 8 weeks until flames camp, when the saddledome is satisfactory for stampede.

MLS is done with Canada. The last expansion club cost $500 million USD and that's before building a stadium.

That $1 billion+ CAD funds Cavalry for the next century, and that includes the 12000 seat stadium included in the Spruce Meadows long term plan.
